Channing Tatum as He-Man?

According to Variety Sony and toy licensee Mattel Films have tapped the writers of Sony’s lucrative Men In Black franchise to steer its long gestating He-Man and the Masters of the Universe property to the silver screen.

Art  Marcum and Matt Holloway will pen the film and the brother team of Adam and Aaron Nee are directing.

The movie will be based on the 1980s Mattel line of strangely muscularly proportioned action figures that launched a successful afternoon cartoon series that ran from 1983 to 1985 and is beloved by a generation of Millennials that have flooded the coffers of other He-Man contemporaries from The Transformers to GI Joe (which Tatum starred in).

Consequence of Sound said of the deal:  “As of now, it’s unclear whether they’ll be rewriting David S. Goyer’s original script, who remains a producer. Goyer isn’t exactly known for comedy like Marcum and Holloway, so it’s likely they wanted to go in a more tongue-in-cheek direction. It worked for Warner Bros., whose similarly fantastical Aquaman has shored up nearly a billion dollars for the studio. If Sony wants to do that, they’d be wise to try and conjure up some of that meta-comedy that made their Jump Street movies such a success.”

Gay Couple Meeting with Mattel to Pitch Same-Sex Wedding Doll Set for Children: WATCH

Matt Jacobi and Nick Caprio landed a meeting with Mattel, the makers of Ken and Barbie, in hopes that the company will manufacture same-sex wedding dolls.

Jacobi and Caprio got the idea after shopping for their niece, and finding there were no ‘Ken and Barbie’ type dolls which featured gay couples. As a solution, they crafted a same-sex couple from two separate sets to give to her.

KNXV reports: ‘Matt and Nick eventually bought the traditional Barbie wedding set and an extra Ken doll, but the couple feels it’s time for a change. “It’s going to come up in your family no matter what,” says Nick. “As more same sex couples are having kids, your kids are going to have kids in the class that have gay parents and things like that, too. So it’s not that huge of a shock anymore.”‘

Couple to discuss same-sex wedding dolls with makers of Barbie and Ken

Same-sex Ken dolls

A gay couple will meet with the makers of Barbie and Ken dolls to talk about creating same-sex wedding doll sets for children.

Matt Jacobi and Nick Caprio are scheduled to meet with representatives of Mattel next week.

The couple decided to push the toy makers after shopping for a Barbie wedding set with two Ken dolls for their niece.

But they could only find sets which had one Barbie and one Ken, reports CBS Austin.

‘You just look at it from your perspective and you just realize that it’s not, it’s not connecting to us,’ says Jacobi.

In the end, the couple purchased a traditional Barbie wedding set and an additional Ken doll, which Jacobi posted on Instragram.

But they say that now is the time to make introduce the same-sex couple option into the toy market.

‘It’s going to come up in your family no matter what,’ says Caprio.

‘As more same-sex couples are having kids, your kids are going to have kids in the class that have gay parents and things like that, too. So it’s not that huge of a shock anymore.’

LGBTI Barbies

The couple are not the first people to introduce try and make LGBTI themes in children’s toys more mainstream.

Last year, fashion design blogger Aimee Song made a series of photos of two Barbie dolls posing lovingly together.

One of the photos with two Barbie dolls wearing Love Wins T-shirts.

This was tweeted with the caption ‘barbie is gay now it’s official’, and was retweeted over 150,000 times.

In 2016, Mattel released a Barbie doll of lesbian soccer player, Abby Wambach.

The previous year, the company had featured a boy in their adverts for Barbie dolls, which had angered some conservative groups.
