LOVELOUD has announced popstar Kesha will headline the festival in June.
She also wants you to bring as much glitter as possible on 29 June 2019. LOVELOUD is an LGBTI event founded by Imagine Dragons’ frontman Dan Reynolds and is held in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In an interview with Associated Press, she invited people who were ‘skeptical or don’t understand the LGBTQ community’ to attend and have their perception changed.
She said: ‘Please come and let me know if you don’t have the best time ever at this show, because it’s going to be such a celebration of love.
‘I think it’s going to be pretty undeniable to be sitting in an arena full of love, and not feel how beautiful of a feeling it is.’
Others set to perform at the USANA Amphitheater include Tegan & Sara, Grouplove, Pvris and Reynolds himself.
Bringing together communities
Reynolds started the festival last year as a safe space for LGBTI young people to feel love and acceptance. They also want to open the dialogue about teen suicides in the LGBTI community.
The Imagine Dragons singer is also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as the Mormon Church. He is keen to promote LGBTI rights within the religious community.
He said: ‘To have a festival that essentially is a gay rights festival and have people from the faith community come out [and] people from the political realm come out… just shows that communities and people that society thinks are on very different sides of the page can come together.
‘It was the far left, the far right. It was religious and non[-religious] all coming to the table and saying: “What can we do to fix this problem?”‘
Kesha, who is bisexual, said that growing up in Nashville, Tennesse, she struggled with the concept of LGBTI rights and religion.
‘I think it can be confusing. I just want people to know that whichever side you’re on of the conversation to try to approach it delicately because there are people who just need to feel heard and want to feel safe and OK.
‘That’s a huge part of why I want to do this festival. Everyone deserves to be who they are, and to be proud of who they are.’
Last year the festival raised $1million (884,510EUR) for organizations like The Trevor Project, GLAAD and the Human Rights Campaign.
Tickets range from $29.50 (26.09EUR) to $99 (87.57EUR) and are on sale from 15 March.
