Non-binary actor Bex Taylor-Klaus revealed on Twitter on Wednesday (24 April) that the LGBTI community has a big ally in Oscar-winning actor Kate Winslet.
In a thread on the social media platform, Taylor-Klaus wrote about their experience working with Winslet. The pair will soon be seen together on the big screen in the drama Blackbird.
While acting side-by-side, Taylor-Klaus described Winslet as a ‘champion’ of their gender identity.
As the thread went on, Taylor-Klaus detailed how Winslet supported them throughout shooting. This included directly asking Taylor-Klaus questions.
Winslet also ‘facilitated a safe, supported, and enjoyable way’ for Taylor-Klaus to come out to the rest of the cast.
Further, Winslet also made a point to use the correct pronouns.
As filming went on, Tayl0r-Klaus learned Winslet instilled these same inclusive and supportive attitudes in her children.
‘Kate also made sure her children understood my identity and pronouns,’ they wrote in the thread.
Of Winslet’s 4-year-old, Taylor-Klaus said ‘that kid is more of an ally than many adults I’ve met’ and ‘that little dude is my bestie’.
Taylor-Klaus ended the thread by expressing gratitude for ‘Kate’s allyship’.
‘Kate Winslet is the absolute best,’ they concluded. And we have to agree.
Winslet is currently filming a same-sex romance drama, Ammonite, with Saoirse Ronan.
