Rapper Cardi B did not mince words in an Instagram live video over the weekend when she brought up actor Jussie Smollett.
In the ever-evolving story surrounding the alleged attack on Smollett, sources and rumors persist that Smollett himself was involved.
While talking to her fans in the video, Cardi B brought the story up: ‘I’m really disappointed in Jussie Smollett — whatever the fuck his name is.’
She continued, bringing up the significance of this happening in February: ‘I feel like he fucked up Black History Month, bro. God damn.’
Her comments didn’t end there, though, as she fell short of totally blaming him. She said he could have been framed as lying about the attack.
‘I’m not gonna say yet until he say it out his mouth that it was fake and this shit was staged — I don’t want to completely blame him. But, if he’s not, then bro you fucked up for real, like why would you do that? You ain’t had to do that.’
Empire star Smollett, 36, was allegedly attacked in late January in Chicago. First reports indicated two white men in MAGA hats attacked him and put a noose around his neck.
Last Friday (15 February), Chicago police arrested two suspects before releasing them with no charges.
The suspects, brothers Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo, told investigators Smollett paid them to help stage the attack. They did this after police reportedly confronted them with evidence that they bought the rope used as a noose.
Through his lawyers, Smollett continues to deny this: ‘As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with.’
Both police and FBI investigating
Chicago police are continuing to investigate the case and the FBI is now involved as well.
According to ABC News, the Osundairos claimed Smollett staged the attack after a racist and homophobic letter threatening him was sent to Fox and he felt it did not get enough attention.
Now, however, the FBI and the US Postal Inspection Service are investigating whether Smollett was involved in sending the letter.
The letter is currently within the FBI’s possession for analysis.
Chicago police department’s Chief Communications Officer Anthony Guglielmi released a statement E! News: ‘We can confirm that the information received from the individuals questioned by police earlier in the Empire case has in fact shifted the trajectory of the investigation. We’ve reached out to the Empire cast member’s attorney to request a follow-up interview.’
Authorities have not confirmed allegations of a staged attack, nor have they made any charges or further arrests.
