‘What’s the matter with her?’: Piers Morgan slams ‘patronising’ Alyssa Milano

Alyssa Milano and Piers Morgan

UK morning TV host Piers Morgan slammed Alyssa Milano today (12 Match) for a tweet in which she declared herself ‘a trans person’ and a ‘person of color.’

To celebrator International Women’s Day last week, Milano tweeted her ‘transgender sisters’ before saying she is ‘everything.’

The actress’ initial tweet was harmless: ‘My transgender sisters! I am celebrating YOU this #NationalWomensDay!’

A user replied, ‘Alyssa are you transgender?’ which is when Milano, 46, responded that she is ‘everything’.

Milano, in a since deleted tweet, said: ‘I’m trans. I’m a person of color, I’m an immigrant, I’m a lesbian, I’m a gay man, I’m the disabled.’

While the actress since apologised, Piers Morgan mocked her, according to Metro.co.uk.

What did he say?

On Good Morning Britain, the TV presenter said Milano is ‘the type that wakes up in the morning and doesn’t stop screaming about Trump.’

In a deluge of derisory comments, Morgan said: ‘You’re not trans, a person of colour, you’re not so actually you’re none of those things.

‘Don’t listen to her because she’s suffering from TDS, Trump Derangement Syndrome, which has sent so many of these liberal actors completely barking mad.’

Morgan also resorted to transphobia to prove his point: ‘If you can self-identify then we can all be anything.

‘So, I therefore identify as a hippopotamus, does that make me a hippopotamus? No.’

‘I see you and hear you’

After the bizarre tweet, Milano did clarify her intentions.

The 46-year-old Charmed actress wrote in a follow-up tweet: ‘I’m glad this tweet invoked conversation.

‘I’m so sorry it offended some. I see you and hear you.

She then added: ‘But just a reminder, empathy is not a bad thing. Nuance is important and literal interpretation is not always intended. And I can identify with and not identify as. Both are powerful.’

She then quoted thirteenth century Persian poet Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi: ‘This is a subtle truth. Whatever you love, you are.’

Milano is an activist and vocal supporter of the #MeToo movement.
